The determination of the solution viscosity of polymeric materials is very important to the industry, both to research and manufacturing. It can be used to estimate the molar mass, providing important information relating to the physical properties of polymers.
Polymer Char developed an automated process for viscosity measurements of polymeric materials in solution with no manual intervention throughout the whole process including sample preparation. It is compatible with inorganic solvents such as water, and also with organic solvents such as decalin, tetralin, tri-chlorobenzene (TCB), ortho-dichlorobenzene among others. Different instrumentation models are available according to the type of samples and customer’s needs, so that a wide range of polymers, even the most crystalline ones such as polyolefins, can be analyzed with convenience and safety.
This technology has two approaches depending on the analytical temperature the polymer demands. IVA for Polyolefins is available for Polyethylene and Polypropylene, which require dissolution and analysis at high temperature. IVA Versa is the alternative for polymers that can be analyzed at ambient or room temperature.
